So this is the first of many planned shows for 5AoF in the coming year, both is San Fran and beyond. This show is right up our alley as it's in our hometown, cheap ($5!), and on the weekend, so you all have no excuse not to come out and get stupid with the other members of the Fearful Faithful. The initial response to this show has been good, and by all accounts, this club is packed on the weekends regardless.
We plan on playing more shows than ever in the new year, and as usual we are working on and recording new material for our sophomore CD. If all plays out properly, we'll be playing selected songs from said CD, some of them possibly for the first time. We have plenty of videos in the can that are waiting on a post edit, and hopefully we'll have some of those up here over the weekend. The only thing holding that back are technical hang ups that I (Mr. SageBrush) hope to have fixed in short order.
As a band we've been practicing new sounds, different approaches, different lyrics, two guitar attacks, different genres all together, and so on. That's one of my favorite things about playing with 5AoF: although at our core we're a grimy dive bar type of rock band, we've been known to just completely divert our style, whether it be surf tunes, metal, punk, synthy ballads, Oi music, ska, whatever, we just do what we want. We'll never be pegged as any particular style. That is good. We all bring different influences to the table.
On a funny side note, I saw somewhere that our old bassist Guy (the "original" bassist) had posted some graphics he made for the band back in the day for t-shirts, etc. on a message board. He explained that the band "didn't last long, but the t-shirts still sell". That's funny because way we see it, we've lasted plenty long without him, if not flourished. What he should have posted was "I was in 5AoF, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt".
So, moral of the story, tell the whole story, not "your version". You're building scale models while we play shows. Thanks for the logo though, dude bro. We can never say that you didn't contribute anything. You definitely did with the graphics.
We've got the bassist we've always been missing in Jack Drake, and he contributes very well, thanks. Addition by subtraction. And don't take it personal buddy, like everyone else who's name we drop, we're just "fuckin' witchya".
So, show up to our show if you bothered to read this rant, and see what we're all about, then draw your own conclusions. We're banking on the fact that if you like live rock n' roll, you won't be disappointed. Also on this bill are the bands Trikk Baby, Prognosis Negative (from LA), and Thumper. We all saw Thumper live at Battle Of The Bands last year, and they're bad ass. It's worh the measly 5 bux, some come out of pocket, have some drinks, and see some live, local, and loud music.
More to come.
